Join us for an exciting Billing Hackathon focused on transforming the digital payment landscape using Africa's Talking APIs. This event brings together developers, designers, and entrepreneurs to tackle real-world challenges in billing and payments. From creating seamless mobile billing systems to designing innovative customer invoicing platforms, this is your opportunity to shape the future of financial technology in Africa.


We’re calling on developers and innovators to explore how technology can simplify, enhance, and democratize billing solutions for businesses and users alike. Whether you're building for SMEs, large enterprises, or last-mile consumers, this hackathon offers the platform, mentorship, and tools to bring your ideas to life.



Prizes will be awarded to the most innovative, impactful, and technically proficient projects. Beyond the competition, this hackathon is a chance to connect with the Africa's Talking Developer community, gain valuable experience, and potentially kickstart your project with support from Africa's Talking and our partners.

Challenge Ideas:

  • SME Invoicing Tool: Design an easy-to-use invoicing and payment tool for small businesses that integrates SMS/USSD notifications and real-time payment updates.

  • Multi-Channel Payment Gateway: Develop a mobile-first payment solution that enables customers to receive bills and pay using any preferred method—Mobile Money, Card, or Airtime.

  • Utility Billing Integration: Design a billing notification and reminder system for utilities (e.g., water, electricity), complete with payment tracking and customer feedback.

  • Subscription Management Solution: Build a comprehensive subscription billing system with automated recurring payments, usage-based billing, and customer self-service portals, incorporating USSD menus for easy subscription management without internet access.
